Intercepting Skype Calls: the virus hides in VoIP

Some viruses have a capacity of crude oil, but the fear of spying on people logging every keystroke you type. Now, hackers, and possibly the execution of the law another weapon: a virus that can be heard on voice conversations to have that on your computer, instead of going to a regular phone line.

The capacity has been shown in a new horse “Trojan” virus, which records voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) via the popular Skype service. Cost of Skype calls are free or low and can work between two computers or between a computer and phone.

It amounted to 480 million Skype users worldwide at the end of June, but it is unlikely that many would be affected by the new virus. It is better for the understanding of the specific infections rather than quantity, because criminals have generated sift through an unfathomable amount of sound by the virus.

The prosecution in the United States probably needs a prescription monitoring Skype calls from someone, but the obstacles to the implementation of the virus may be lower for the intelligence agencies and the authorities in d other countries.

The virus intercept calls security firm Symantec Corp., the first “Trojan” is not directed at a particular vulnerability in Skype. Instead Manage Windows hooks into some parts of the operating system on the treatment of audio. Then everything starts audio from Skype before it is encrypted by the software to be tested by Symantec.

The sound is stored as MP3 files on computers and can be controlled by criminals to be sent.

“It’s much more interesting than dangerous,” said Kevin Haley, director of Symantec Security Response. “It is a tool of espionage. That is their purpose clear. It is not realistic for a large-scale attacks.

The virus was designed and Ruben Unteregger, a programmer from Switzerland, who said he began research on your own, before publishing a project for your company, ERA IT Solutions.

In 2006, the software company of the Swiss newspaper Sonntag newspaper that was a virus of VoIP hackers have been reported to the Swiss government said that an account Unteregger he could not confirm the cause of a signed confidentiality agreement that he signed for the project.

ERA IT Solutions said it has never been an order from a state agency to develop the program, and it works no longer if Unteregger the year in the past.

“It’s just a matter of beets,” said Riccardo Gubser company representative.

Unteregger said in an email interview with The Associated Press that his goal is to release the source code of the virus to educate people, “turn into a surveillance society” and “Trojan horses of the police was a reality and questionable.
